Store Full O’ Fibsons

I won’t give the website details, though you can find it quite easily with a google search, but this is being passed off as a Gibson Les Paul Custom. (pictures below are from the site)

Fake Les Paul Custom
Clearly it is a fake, the terrible placement of the Gibson logo on the headstock and the usual three screw truss rod cover. Interestingly – and this is becoming increasingly common, the back of the headstock has a “Made In USA” stamp and has a convincing looking serial number, (see picture below).
rear headstock
Also on the website is the new Epiphone Slash Les Paul and it looks to me like an Epiphone, however an exact same looking instrument was just pulled off eBay a few days after it was listed, if you want one get it from an authorised dealer. Oh the big clues on the Les Paul Custom and the Epiphone Slash Les Paul? The price, $249 each. Another, (less convincing Epi Slash is up there for $320 with case and all the paperwork – but it has a different truss rod cover than the official release, oh and if you fancy just an Epiphone Slash Les Paul case, $0.10!!!

John Deere Les Paul for the tractor lover?

This Les Paul on eBay is a good example of a fake Gibson, though others are harder to detect.

The seller for this particular guitar is an honest one and has posted on the listing that this is not a genuine Gibson. As with most cheap counterfeit Gibsons the obvious point to look at is the truss rod cover, notice the three screws rather than usual two. The shape of the headstock is not the regular Gibson “moustache” shape either, however there are older Gibson guitars out there that do have this shape , as well as a bolt on neck such as the Challenger, (below).

Challenger headstock

This Gibson Challenger, (currently for sale on ebay.com) as well as the Gibson Invader both have this style of headstock as well as a bolt on neck.
