This Les Paul on eBay is a good example of a fake Gibson, though others are harder to detect.
The seller for this particular guitar is an honest one and has posted on the listing that this is not a genuine Gibson. As with most cheap counterfeit Gibsons the obvious point to look at is the truss rod cover, notice the three screws rather than usual two. The shape of the headstock is not the regular Gibson “moustache” shape either, however there are older Gibson guitars out there that do have this shape , as well as a bolt on neck such as the Challenger, (below).
This Gibson Challenger, (currently for sale on ebay.com) as well as the Gibson Invader both have this style of headstock as well as a bolt on neck.
